Wounded soldier delivers ‘the most beautiful salute’
Cincinnati native’s struggling gesture during Purple Heart ceremony stirs up emotions, buzz[…]
As the Purple Heart presentation began, Hargis struggled to move his right hand and lift it into a saluting position. Military protocol calls for a soldier to salute when he receives the Purple Heart.
A doctor tried to restrain his right arm. It was, alas, a losing battle.
“He had no idea how strong and driven my husband is,” Taylor Hargis said.
In pain from his wounds, still groggy from surgery, bandaged, hooked up to yards of tubes and without opening his blue-green eyes, Hargis delivered what his wife described as “the most beautiful salute any person in that room had ever seen.”
The commanding officer told her the salute left everyone in the room in tears.

Let us all learn from his spirit.
Wow. Pray for a speedy recovery for this hero. May God bless him.
Hail, Mary
Full of grace
The Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women
And blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God
Pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
Seat of Wisdom, pray for us.
St Michael, Patron of Warriors and Sheepdogs, watch over and protect this warrior as he was protecting us when he sustained his grave injuries.
Lead the way, Ranger.
This reminds me of the story I heard when I was in the Regiment about a lower right leg amputee Ranger from 2nd Batt who , 4 days after losing his leg, jumped out of his bed when Reagan visited the hospital and executed a perfect salute.
Brotherhood.
Prayers for his physical healing and eternal salvation!
Never mess with a soldier, sailor, airman, or marine who is trying to do the right thing. You might as well try and stare down the sun. It would be equally futile.
Hooah, CPL Hargis!
What is it about the UPBRINGING of these young American men which makes them turn out so admirable? (One does not need to be a war-monger, as the Left would have it, to admire patriotism and self-sacrifice.)
The Left and the Media sneer at ‘outdated’ nostrums like “Honor, Duty, Country,” but without a commitment to such ideals, we are lost.
Ranger Cpl. Josh Hargis was very likely a Boy Scout, who bought into the Boy Scouts’ Oath. He’s probably from a church-going family. Most certainly, he is not one of the ‘Blame America First’ crowd, to use Jeanne Kirkpatrick’s famous phrase.
When I think of the treatment ROTC units have received on the campuses of American ‘elite’ universities I want to cry. I think modern ‘public’ education is at the root of many of the problems that ail us.
As a recently retired Navy officer, I return this brave soldier’s salute. I only wish I could do so in person.

As Oliverian said:
“The Left and the Media sneer at ‘outdated’ nostrums like “Honor, Duty, Country,” but without a commitment to such ideals, we are lost.”
Very, very true. Nobility never goes out of season to those who seek the Truth.
Brought tears to my eyes just reading about it.
Hail to our brave, courageous, righteous men in uniform to whom we all owe so much.
