   I love the way the microphone just hangs in the air when he takes his hands away from it.

   I hope he doesn’t do that when you get back to earth, forgetting that things work differently down here!

   Free floating water in a free fall condition can be extremely dangerous. The liquid can break off into small droplets that can get into very small spaces and wreck havoc with electronics.

   Canada has contributed significantly to the space program, or at least what was the US’s space program.

   Jack,Canada was actually the third country in the world to put a satellite into orbit.

   We just got back from a trip to Canada. The mission commander (the one in the video) is from Canada. He just unveiled one of the new Canadian bills that will be put into circulation later this year. It has a bunch of new high-tech “devices” in it to prevent forgery and it’s made of a polymer instead of regular paper. But the reason they wanted him to unveil it, is because it has a space exploration theme, showcasing Canada’s contributions to that field.

   I’m willing to give CDR Hadfield the benefit of the doubt for this demo. I recall reading that the astronauts on the first Skylab mission discovered that if anything went astray in the spacecraft it would eventually be found stuck to an air-intake vent, the air currents having blown it there. Hadfield did another video on fingernail clipping using same technique to catch the clippings. My guess is that he was near to a vent for this video so that any droplets would be safely vacuumed up.

   The most important aspect of Canada’s space agency is the research that goes on and the important spin-offs that benefit everyone. Searching for extraterrestrial life is not the only interest.

    Just to clarify for everyone, contrary to popular belief, Canada isn’t a country that’s just made up of ice and snow where we live in igloos and drive our dogsleds to work at the ice block mines. We are a civilized country with many of the same amenities of the USA, including a space agency.

    APX, I am a Canadian, and for the record, in my part of the country there is still snow and ice. Dog sledding is a winter sport in my locale. No igloos, but some folks live in tee pees in the summer.

    Now, now, APX, we’re not all ignorant of the Great White North. Some of us have even lived there. For years. I know the heat of a Toronto summer, and the rain of a Vancouver… well almost any month, other than July or August. And I even know the wind at Portage a & Main, in Winnipeg, from having leaned into it.

    For all of that, I think much of Canada is enjoying a warmer time of it right now than north GA, where I am.

    Yes, wmeyer, we had a beautiful weekend, nice and warm today, but colder and rain for tomorrow’s forecast. Of course, we all joke about the traditional snow for the long weekend in May here in Alberta, but I’ll take that over the heat and humidity of Toronto (14 years there) any day. We experience Chinook winds in Alberta, strong enough you can lean on them, too. We say that we have a long winter in Alberta, with a couple of months of bad skiing.

    I’m contemplating the purchase of a standalone apartment A/C right now or the purchase of a lot of ice and constructing a redneck A/C. It’s not even summer yet and I’m already melting.

    Yes, APX, Calgary – snow for May long must have been the giveaway, eh? The heat came on fast and strong, we of high altitude thin blood not suited to it. Don’t worry, we’ll have the thermostat turned up before the end of June – remember last year?

    Being Canadians, I’m surprised they haven’t experimented with weightless hockey using those hockey-puck washcloth things :)
