People are sending me email about the reconciliation of the SSPX being “postponed”.
How can something that was not scheduled be postponed?
Relax. Breathe. Pray.
The Holy Father has plenty to do. There are few important things he is surely writing on his own right now. There many aspects of this one situation to study and reflect on. He can use the time to absorb the state of the question and make a prudent judgement.
Support him with your prayers and mortifications offered up for the worthy petitions I am sure you gave in this regard.
The Fishwrap (aka the ultra-liberal dissenting National Catholic Reporter) has published a prayer written by a woman religious in advance of responding to the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith and the upcoming annual meeting of the Leadership Conference of Women Religious (LCWR).
The LCWR (a subsidiary of the Magisterium of Nuns) is in the process of being retooled by the CDF.
Have a look:
A prayer for discernment as LCWR begins deliberations
by Thomas C. Fox on May. 29, 2012NCR Today
The Leadership Conference of Women Religious begins several days of deliberations today in preparations to offer a response to the April 18th Vatican doctrinal asssessment. Leaders of 13 regions of women religious will begin to decide this week on a course of action and will take the ideas which come from this week’s discussions to the full LCWR assembly, set to meet in August in St. Louis.
Meanwhile, LCWR as asked for prayers and has posted on its website a prayer written by Immaculate Heart of Mary Sister Chris Koellhoffer.
God’s Spirit
A Prayer for our SistersIn this time of pain and promise,
we call on God’s Spirit to bless
the leadership of LCWR, of our
Congregation, and all women religious
who strive to live the gospel in these
uncertain times. We call on the Spirit of God to reveal
the way forward that is faithful to God’s
dream for us and our lives together.May all who are called to engage
in prayer and conversation come to
the table with hearts that are open,
transparent, and faith-filled. May their
reflection be marked by a deep listening
to the voice of the Spirit at work in
our world.May the holy ones who have gone
before us inspire us by their courage
and wisdom and affirm that we are
not alone.May we continue to faithfully live the
questions of our time and witness to
the people of God that we are women
at home with mystery and filled with
fierce hope for our shared future.
Amen.by Immaculate Heart of Mary Sister Chris Koellhoffer
Okay… all in all it isn’t a horrible prayer, considering the …. unusual… environment it comes out of.
Yes, this is a time of pain and promise. Yes, it is good to pray to “the Spirit”, “the Spirit of God”, “God’s Spirit”, so long as we are praying to the Holy Spirit, Third Person of the Most Holy Trinity.
No, Sister, God doesn’t have a “dream” for you.
I am not sure what being “women at home with mystery” means, or what might be involved in a “fierce hope” for a “shared future” means, especially when you see the list of the speakers for that Assembly.
However, I suggest that, as part of the their “conversation” and “listening”, they ought to do a great deal more listening than talking. And in their listening, sure, listen to the Holy Spirit, but especially as manifested through Holy Church’s duly appointed shepherds. Their LCWR’s listening should be offered to the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith and those whom the CDF have appointed to oversee their renewal. They must not attempt to pit the Holy Spirit against Holy Church’s shepherds. The Holy Spirit is talking to the sisters already, through Holy Church’s shepherds.
Therefore, sisters, listen a great deal more than you talk and pray for the courage to be docile.
In the meantime, try this prayer. And I ask all the readers here prayerfully to read this through, in this special time of the Octave of Pentecost, asking the Third Person of the Trinity to help these women attain a great victory and give a profound witness by openly and joyfully offering obedience to the Holy See.

The liturgical eye-candy specialists at NLM have posted some great photos of the annual pilgrimage to Chartres Cathedral (for those of you in Fridley, that’s a big, pretty church in France).
Sample.

We need more processions.
Anecdote: One day in May I was hanging around outside the Paul VI audience hall (Vatican) during the annual plenary meeting of the Italian Bishops Conference waiting for my bishop to emerge, chatting with fellow journalists and the bishops’ drivers and secretaries a couple bishops who had simply fled the hall in boredom. I had just been to a Eucharistic procession the day before held by the Teutonic College that went through the Vatican gardens, Swiss Guards carrying the canopy, … stunning. Deep in his chest this one old bishop rumbled “Meno chiacchiere – più processioni. … Less jabbering – more processions.”
Pretty much says it all.
Pilgrimages, especially big and public processions such as this, are a useful tool for the spiritual life and also a tool for the new evangelization.
Take it to the country roads and streets.
The Administration of “The First Gay President” is attacking the first liberties of all Americans by undermining the 1st Amendment. Pres. Obama is, through the HHS mandate, attacking also the Catholic Church and all religious institutions in the USA.
I posted before about a good resource for this battle for our religious liberty from the Beckett Fund. I see that CNA has a piece about their site.
Religious liberty group launches massive HHS mandate site
By Michelle BaumanWashington D.C., May 30, 2012 / 02:11 am (CNA/EWTN News).- A legal group that aims to defend religious freedom has launched a new website offering a wealth of resources on the contraception mandate, and the various lawsuits that have been filed against it.
“There was a lot of misinformation out there on the mandate,” said Emily Hardman, attorney and communications director for the Becket Fund for Religious Liberty, a D.C.-based organization.
Hardman told CNA on May 29 that the Becket Fund “wanted to provide an accurate, concise and useful resource for reporters and the general public.”
She explained that when the information “is laid out clearly in one place,” it is evident that the mandate’s requirements violate the First Amendment’s protections of religious freedom.
On May 22, the Becket Fund launched a webpage to serve as a centralized resource for information surrounding the contraception mandate. The webpage tracks the lawsuits that have been filed against the mandate by plaintiffs ranging from EWTN to seven U.S. states to two private business owners.

He had been ill since March.
Bishop Li, who was consecrated secretly in 1998, was approved by the Vatican but not recognized by the government. Despite negotiation with government officials, the Church community will not be allowed to recognize his bishop’s status at his funeral.

From a reader:
I make frequent use of the Sacrament of Penance and have a regular confessor. It’s always “anonymous,” but not anonymous. It’s awkward. The priest knows it’s me, but when he’s giving counsel he gets caught up on trying come up with a way of saying something act as though he doesn’t know it’s me. I have to fight the temptation to finish his sentences for him. Sometimes he’s slipped up and made vague reference to things I’ve done or said which he witnessed, but I didn’t speak of, or made known. Sometimes he’s caught himself doing so he tried to
cover for it, which just made things more awkward.I know most confessors will go out of their way to protect anonymity so penitents don’t have to worry about Father knowing who is confessing, but is this extent of preserving anonymity required? I’m not talking about going into names here, etc, but if someone is confessing sins related to, for example work or home, etc, would it not be better for both parties if Father just quit beating around the bush trying to preserve anonymity when both people know it’s not
anonymous and give specific counsel to what that person’s situation is? Is there a way to get around the awkwardness?
Be grateful that the confessor is so diligent and careful!
In my opinion, the confessor is doing just fine and you should be happy that he is so attentive when walking that knife’s edge between using information he knows from a previous confession and giving you what he thinks you need.
In this case, why don’t you just make an appointment for confession on a regular basis (if the priest can do it) so that your confession can be in the context of an easier conversation.
You could, at the beginning of your confession, say when you also say what your state in life is, “Father, this is ‘[your name]’ or ‘[some made up name]’ or ‘Penitent 43′”, to take the priest off the hook. You could during the confession say, “Father, I am coming to you regularly. Could I just call myself “Penitent 43″ so that in the future you don’t have to worry about the Seal and beat around the bush about details which you know from other confessions? Is that okay?” Then go by what he says.
Otherwise, if you are not interested in that format, then you’ll have to bear these awkward moments with a little good humor and gratitude.
Please say a prayer regularly for this confessor, who sounds like he is trying to do right by you and all the people who get into his confessional.
Via Sancte Pater comes this from Inquisitr:
(The Inquisitr) The people of Saudi Arabia are furious with the McDonald’s fast food chain for a toy which they say desecrates the name of Muhammed, the prophet of Islam. They are demanding retribution.
According to the Arabic news website, Kermalkom.com,“[the McDonald’s fast food restaurant] abused the Prophet Muhammad by placing his name at the base of a toy that is being distributed as part of the Happy Meal, a toy which steps on the name ‘Muhammad.’”
The toy is a blue super hero on a blue base. The toy looks like a Mighty Morphin Power Ranger samurai warrior. The toy stand on one of its legs and the other leg hangs over the side of the base. When a lever is pressed the toy’s other leg smahes against the base of the toy in a stomping motion.
The Saudis are claiming that the base of the toy, where it stomps its foot, is covered with the name Muhammed. They claim the name is written several times in circles all over the base so every time it stomps it is stomping on Muhammed.
The toy had been distributed for several days and until today no one had noticed the name written on the base of the toy. After its discovery by Saudi Muslim authorities they lunched several campaigns against the restaurant “in response to the savage attacks on the noble prophet”. The campaigns were called “Help your Prophet” and “Together in support of the Prophet.”
In response, “Saudi McDonald’s” has taken the toy out of circulation at all of its restaurants stating it was important, “to safeguard against any accusations or misunderstandings.”
People can be legitimately angry at true religious insults. But…
The “Law of the Sea” Treaty (LOST) would, if ratified by the Senate, undermine U.S. sovereignty. LOST is also called the “United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.” It would give huge power over many spheres of America trade and security to the UN.
Pres. Reagan opposed it. Pres. Obama wants it. Think about that.
LOST
Below is a list of GOP Senators who have NOT opposed the Law of the Sea Treaty as of 26 May 2012. One way to contact your Senator with a pre-made message of opposition to this really bad treaty is to visit Tell-Your-Senator-To-Oppose-LOST.
